Mayor of Kyiv: two thirds of the capital remain without power. Water supply still not restored on right bank of the city

Two thirds of Kyiv remain without electricity, Mayor of the Ukrainian capital Vitali Klitschko says in a Telegram post.

“Seventy percent of the capital remains without power for now. Power specialists are working hard to restore the supply as soon as possible,” he writes.

The specialists noted that the power supply situation in the city would depend on the speed of restoring the balance of Ukraine’s energy system, seeing as Kyiv is one part of a state-wide energy system, the mayor warns.

According to Klitschko, water supply has still not been restored in the right-bank districts of Kyiv. “Power specialists worked through the night to restore the capital’s life-support systems. Water supply on the left bank of the city has been restored. When it comes to the right bank, the plan is to restore the supply in the first half of the day,” he adds.

In the early hours of 24 November, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky urged to stop Russia’s “energy terror” and invited UN experts to inspect critical infrastructure facilities of Ukraine during his message via video transmission at an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council held at his request. Zelensky also talked about gradual restoration of power supply in different regions of Ukraine after the new missile attacks carried out by Russia and said that Kyiv was facing the most difficult situation power-wise.

Following the missile strikes on Kyiv carried out by Russia on 23 November, three people were killed, according to Klitschko. Among the victims, there was a 17-year-old young woman. At least 11 residents of the Ukrainian capital were injured, 10 of them were hospitalised. Ukraine’s Ministry of Energy later announced that all nuclear power plants as well as the majority of thermal and hydroelectric power stations had been temporarily shut down.

Head of the Kyiv region administration Oleksiy Kuleba said that four people were killed and 34 injured as a result of yesterday’s missile attacks in the Kyiv region. Among the injured, five are children.
