Moscow court upholds decision by Nemtsov murder investigators not to question top Chechen officials

A Moscow court has upheld the actions federal investigators in the murder case of Boris Nemtsov, including the decision not to question Ramzan Kadyrov, the head of Russia's Chechen Republic.

The court was responding to a complaint filed by Zhanna Nemtsova, the daughter of the slain politician. In the complaint, Nemtsova raised the possible illegality of investigators' refusal to question Kadyrov, as well as Duma deputy Adam Delimkhanov, Chechen police battalion commander Alibek Delimkhanov, and Federation Assembly member Suleiman Geremeev—all of whom are widely suspected of knowing details about the plot to assassinate Nemtsov.

So far, among such high-ranking officials, investigators have only agreed to question Ruslan Geremeev, the deputy commander of Alibek Delimkhanov's police battalion, but this interrogation is still yet to take place.

• Boris Nemtsov, a former deputy prime minister and prominent critic of Vladimir Putin, was shot and killed on February 27 in the center of Moscow, not far from the Kremlin. Nemtsov was 55 years old. Police have arrested five individuals for Nemtsov’s murder—all men from the Russian North Caucasus. Several of the suspects later retracted their initial confessions, saying they were extracted under duress.
