Journalist Vladimir Kara-Murza Jr. has filed a formal case application with Russian police, saying he believes someone attempted to poison and kill him in May 2015.
Kara-Murza was hospitalized on May 27, 2015, in critical condition. He was later diagnosed with “acute kidney failure.” At the time, Russian media outlets reported that his sudden illness could have been related to a possible drug overdose or toxic cocktail of antidepressants.
Kara-Murza is a coordinator for Mikhail Khodorkovsky's Open Russia project, a "social online movement" that seeks to unite Russians who seek democratic reforms in Russia.
“We have filed a criminal incident report in connection with his poisoning. We are asking to initiate formal court proceedings in accordance with articles 30 and 105 of the Criminal Code (for attempted murder),” Kara-Murza's lawyer told Interfax.
