Before dawn on September 17, 2016, a group of unidentified men in Balaclavas ran towards the Russian Embassy in Kiev shouting “Glory to Ukraine. Glory to the Heroes” in protest of Russia’s intention to include Crimea in its upcoming Duma elections and use its Embassy in Kiev as a polling station.
The men launched fireworks at the embassy building and chanted “Freedom to Prisoners of the Kremlin” and “There will be no elections” in Ukrainian. Footage of the event also shows them unfolding a banner with a note that Russia is not welcome in Ukraine.
The incident resulted in no injuries. The embassy claims that the attack involved a group of 20 people, none of whom were detained.
