ECtHR ordered the Azerbaijani authorities to pay compensation for political persecution

The European Court of Human Rights had announced a number of decisions in Azerbaijan’s cases.
In particular, the European Court of Human Rights decided to pay the activist Orhan Eyubzadeh compensation of 7,500 euros. The complainant complained of administrative arrests for participating in anti-Government activities. In 2014, at the end of his arrest, he was not released, but was prosecuted for «violence against a civil servant» and sentenced to two years.
In the case of Afgan Mukhtarla and Gullag Aslanla, the complainants complained of being detained prior to the protest and of being fined for hooliganism. According to the decision, the Government of Azerbaijan must pay 3,000 euros each for moral damages.
Another plaintiff, representing the international non-governmental organization IREX, complained of illegal search in Baku, seizure of documents and computers, freezing of bank accounts. The ECtHR considered that these actions violated the right to privacy guaranteed by article 8 of the Convention. The authorities are obliged to pay compensation of 5,900 euros.
