British Chechen released from illegal prison a month later

Abducted British citizen Magomed Abubakarov and Urus-Martan resident Umar Masaev were released from illegal prison a month after their detention (June 27 and 23, respectively). According to the Memorial Center, Abubakarov's relatives refuse to give any information. He was ordered to appear at the ROVD on first demand.

Earlier it was reported that in May Magomed Abubakarov came from the UK to Urus-Martan to visit his mother. On the night of June 1, he was abducted from his house by armed men who identified themselves as employees of the Kurchaloy District Department of Internal Affairs. Since then, his whereabouts have been unknown. Together with him, Umar Masaev was kept in the cell. He is the owner of the Serlo store in Urus-Martan, and holds the position of chairman of the regional branch of the Russian Union of Speleologists.

Abubakarov and Masaev are united by the fact that in 2009 they both were already detained in Urus-Martan. In the same year, a military man died as a result of an explosion at the checkpoint. The first of the prisoners was forced under torture to confess his involvement in the explosion, but in the end he was convicted for complicity with illegal armed formations. Masaev was convicted under the same article.
