In Nazran, security forces “extorted” a confession from a defendant accused of terrorism

A resident of Ingushetia, Khavazh Derbichev, who was detained last year for financing terrorism, was beaten by law enforcement officers to force him to confess guilt. This was reported on the Telegram channel of the Ingush journalistic project “Fortanga” with reference to the father of the accused.

“The security forces forced Khavazh Derbichev, as well as another defendant in the case, Temerlan Kartoev, to sign confessions,” said Magomed Derbichev. “When they were sitting in Nazran, they were forced to put a bag over their heads and force them to write a confession, they mocked them...” Khavazh’s father never clarified what exactly was meant by the word “bullied.”

Derbichev Sr. also stated that his son was being held in the Rostov detention center “in poor conditions.” According to him, sending Khavazh a monthly package of food costs the family 15-20 thousand rubles.

According to investigators, Khavazh Derbichev, Temerlan Kartoev and Ilyas Kartoev participated in collecting donations for the Western Islamic speaker Israil Akhmednabiev, also known as Abu Umar Sasitlinsky. Law enforcement officers consider the preacher to be involved in the activities of the Islamic State, an international organization recognized as terrorist in the Russian Federation.

Investigators believe that Khavazha Derbichev received remuneration from Ilyas Kartoev for providing the use of his bank cards, to which donations intended to finance terrorism were transferred. We are talking about transferring almost 27.5 million rubles outside Russia. At the same time, Magomed Derbichev is convinced that his son, having trusted his childhood friend, did not know about the true purposes of the translations.

Khavazh Derbichev has been in custody for a total of 13 months. The court once again extended his prison term until November 13, 2023.
