When Colette and I discussed what would be the main theme in one of our future magazine issues, right away the subject of “young women” came to mind. We have already written about our contemporaries in the older generations – most of our issues have been devoted to the work and expectations of women who are still thought of as young by their colleagues, but who have already had their formal education, hold positions and have attained success in their public life and work. Now, what about those who are still searching and only just finding their way – the very young.
This issue of We/Myi is devoted to them. We have tried here to bring to your attention a variety of materials and subjects, including pieces written by an American high school student, a college student, and a recent college graduate, and a section prepared by the teenage staff of the remarkable magazine in Naberezhnye Chelny called Girls Request Your Attention. It was started and exists thanks to the initiative, enthusiasm and creative explorations of the women’s association “Femina” and its leader, Elena Mashkova. This magazine, in spite of its small circulation, is today one of the best youth publications in our country and, without a doubt, the best for teen girls.
We hope you will also find interesting the other materials in this issue, in particular the “journal within a journal” prepared by our colleagues in Krygyzstan
