FEEDBACK – LETTERS TO THE EDITORS

Elena Kochkina’s interview made the strongest impression on me, about March 8 [International Women’s Day] and the sources of the February Revolution [of 1917, preceding the Bolshevik Revolution in November]. This makes it quite clear, the authentic history of the country is being craftfully hidden from us . I am filled with pride for our Russian women – they stood firm. Even today it is hard to imagine 40,000 women demonstrators. Right now we too should unite and together protest the poverty and degradation in which we find ourselves. What say you to this?

Your special millennium issue aroused my interest, although I cannot agree with all opinions in it. The articles “Paradoxes of World History” and “Contradictions and Problems in the Theory of Contemporary Feminism” seem biased to me; they present the historical development of thought and philosophy as deliberately progressing to feminism, just as formerly it was presented as leading to Marxism-Leninism. However I must give credit to other articles in the issue, for example the one about the “Battalions of Amazons” during the election campaign – this is a profound and original article. I wish you success and hope to find in your pages food for thought and reflection and polemics.

I never read Simone de Beauvoir, I only heard that she was the wife of the well known philosopher, Jean Paul Sartre. I was very interested in Svetlana Aivazova’s piece and searched all the bookstores for The Second Sex, but could not find it anywhere. Will you help me find it. If it is so rare, might you publish at least a few chapters?
