EDITOR’S INTRODUCTION

Dear Readers,
Most of you will get this issue after March 8 [Women’s Day], after you have received the traditional flowers and best wishes.
Let’s remember that in one of our past issues of the magazine we wrote that March 8 was born as a day of women’s struggle for their rights. Historically, it is premature for us to forget this.The last issue was devoted to global problems, to global security and its fragility. Many of our authors expressed concern about violence on a world scale. But violence is not just war and terrorist bombs. Very often it lies in wait within the walls of our own homes, it is in the archetypes of our own culture, in the mass media. We decided to write about its many various manifestations, often hidden beneath the surface, and also about how we can oppose this violence. The texts that we bring to your attention here focus on the problem of cruelty within the family, and the influence of mass culture that consistently discriminates against women and creates a dangerous language of enmity and intolerance. Can we propose something different for our society? How soon can this come about? There will be more on this in future issues.
