If you are matching a Semintra bottle to a prescription by brand name alone, you may be missing the detail that matters most: the concentration printed on the label. Two products can share an active ingredient and still differ in strength, intended use and regulatory market.
The US label describes Semintra as a 10 mg/mL telmisartan oral solution for controlling systemic hypertension in cats. The European product information covers a 4 mg/mL solution, and its stated indication is reducing proteinuria associated with chronic kidney disease. Package details differ too. The US presentation is 35 mL in a 45 mL bottle, while the European one is 30 mL in a 45 mL bottle. Each also carries its own authorization identifier: NADA 141-501 in the US, and EU/2/12/146/001 for the European 30 mL presentation.
Why does this matter in practice? A syringe marking shows volume, not the amount of medication. A 4 mg/mL and a 10 mg/mL solution contain different amounts of telmisartan in the same measured volume, so a prescription written for one cannot simply be measured from the other. Any conversion belongs with the prescribing veterinarian or dispensing pharmacist, not with an online calculation. The FDA record also notes that the US development program used a 4 mg/mL solution, but that does not make every 4 mg/mL bottle equivalent to the US-approved product.
A short verification routine helps:
If the bottle and the prescription do not agree, do not adjust the volume yourself. Pause and ask the professional who prescribed or dispensed it.
