Chronicle of the guilty verdicts for the violence in which the racist motive was proved. 2007

We publish a list of the guilty verdicts for the violent crimes in which the motive of ethnic or religious hatred was officially recognized by the courts in Russia, in 2007. The list was made in chronological order on the basis of the SOVA Center monitoring. In 2007, in total, we got to know about 23 guilty verdicts brought in 16 regions of Russia. The news to which we provide links are in Russian language.

January 25, Voronezh region. Verdict for the murder in 2006 of a Vietnam citizen. On March 28, 2007, the panel of judges of the Voronezh regional criminal court sustained the guilty verdict, reducing the sentence to 4 underage convicted.

January, Kaluga. Verdict for the attack against Myanmar citizens in 2005.

January, Syktyvkar. Verdict for the attack against an Azerbaijan citizen in 2005.

February 2, Tambov. Verdict for the attack against students from Palestine and Jordan in 2005.

February 9, Yekaterinburg. Verdict for the murder of a Jew in 2005. On June 28, the Supreme Court of Russia sustained the verdict.

February 9, Yaroslavl. Verdict for the attack against an African student in 2006.

February, Krasnoyarsk. Verdict for the attack against an ethnic Armenian in 2006.

March, Omsk. Verdict for the murder of an ethnic Kazakh in 2006.

April 10, Moscow region. Verdict for the explosion of the train Grozny - Moscow in 2005. On June 19, the panel of judges of the Supreme court of Russia sustained the verdict.

April 12, North Ossetia. Verdict for the murder committed 12 years before. On June 21, the verdict was sustained by the Supreme court of Russia.

May 18, Stavropol. Verdict for the murder of the Kislovodsk imam in 2006. On October 12, the verdict was sustained by the Supreme court of Russia.

June 19, St. Petersburg. Verdict for the murder of a Congolese student in 2005. On September 13, the verdict was sustained by the Supreme court.

July 2, Belgorod. Verdict for the series of attacks against foreign students. In August, the panel of judges of the Belgorod regional criminal court sustained the guilty verdict, reducing the sentence to one of the two convicted persons.

August, Moscow. Verdict for the creation of an extremist society. Unfortunately, there are no details known.

August 7, St. Petersburg. Verdict for the murder of Timur Kacharava in 2005. On November 1, the verdict was sustained be the Supreme court of Russia.

August, Yekaterinburg. Verdict for the attack against a person coming from the Central Asia in 2006.

October 23, Moscow. Verdict for the murder and a series of attacks against people coming from the Central Asia and the Caucasus in 2006. On December 18, the verdict was sustained by the Supreme court.

October 24, Yekaterinburg. Verdict for the attack against a Yekaterinburg resident in 2006.

October 26, Moscow. Verdict for the murder of a Moscow resident in 2007.

October 30, Moscow. Verdict for the murder of a Turkey citizen in 2005.

December 5, Stavropol region. Verdict for the racially motivated fight in a cafe in 2007.

December 25, Leningrad region. Verdict for the murder of a Kyrgyz citizen in 2006.

December 27, Tyumen. Verdict for the murder of an Azerbaijan citizen in 2005.
