Activists discover the ‘face of Russian television news’ is a Montenegrin citizen
Evening television news anchor Yekaterina Andreeva, who works at Pervyi Kanal and is known to many as the face of primetime Russian news, has been a Montenegrin citizen since 2011, according to revelations by anti-corruption activist Alexey Navalny.
According to research by Navalny's nonprofit group, the Anti-Corruption Foundation (FBK), Andreeva was one of 206 people to receive honorary Montenegrin citizenship in the past seven years.
Andreeva is married to Dusan Perovic, a famous Montenegrin businessman, though FBK says Montenegro did not grant her citizenship because of her marriage to Perovic.
Honorary Montenegrin citizenship is granted to people whose profession and status have special importance for the state and contribute to the realization of scientific, economic, cultural, athletic, and other state interests.
