Russia bans the import of salads from Turkey
Rosselkhoznadzor (Russia's Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance) has banned the import of salads and lettuce from Turkey. The prohibition takes effect next Monday, on May 16.
Russian officials say they are instituting the ban after finding parasites on Turkish produce. The ban also applies to Turkish goods imported through third countries.
In April, Rosselkhoznadzor placed temporary restrictions on the import of Turkish eggplant. In March, imports of Turkish peppers and pomegranates were suspended.
- Russia introduced sanctions against Turkey after the November 24, 2015, downing of a Russian jet fighter over Syria by the Turkish air force. The sanctions included bans on the import of certain Turkish goods and also restrictions on hiring Turkish nationals for work in Russia.
