Ousted newspaper chief will serve as the next chief editor of Russia's last independent TV station
Roman Badanin, the former chief editor of the Russian newspaper RBC, has been named the next chief editor of the independent television station Dozhd. According to the network's general director, Badanin will also be involved with content produced together with Slon magazine. Dozhd's current chief editor, Maria Makeeva, is expected to step down next month, which she says is based on a “long-time wish” to work on other projects.
Badanin was one of the top editors fired from RBC in May 2016, in a personnel shakeup that many in the Russian news industry expect will cripple RBC's independent reporting.
