A small victory for one of Alexey Navalny's activists in Kaliningrad
Oleg Alexeyev, the organizer of an anti-corruption rally in Kaliningrad, has won a defamation lawsuit against the Baltic Federal University, whose administrators accused him of bribing a physical education instructor.
The court awarded Alexeyev a symbolic 500 rubles ($7) in compensation and ordered the school to retract its allegations on social media that he tried to bribe a teacher.
An activist in Alexey Navalny’s local campaign office, Alexeyev was expelled from the Baltic Federal University after staging an anti-corruption protest on June 12, when Navalny’s campaign coordinated such demonstrations across the country. The school claimed that Alexeyev’s expulsion was the result of his poor academic performance and a supposed attempt to bribe a PE teacher.
Alexeyev also tried to challenge his suspension, but the court rejected this request.
