«The bomb falls on Babi Yar again and the world is silent, history repeats itself». Zelenski on civilian deaths at the Holocaust memorial

A missile hit the territory of the Babi Yar memorial complex in Kiev during the shelling of the television tower, and five civilians were killed as a result. This was announced by the Ukrainian authorities. In a rebuke to the international community Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky wrote:

«To the world: What is the point of saying «never again» for 80 years if the world is silent when a bomb falls on Babi Yar? At least five are dead. History repeats itself».

Another five random bystanders were wounded in the shelling. Earlier, U.S. President Joe Biden said it was too early to completely close Ukraine's airspace. «Biden told me it was not yet time to impose a no-fly zone,» Zelensky said in his recent statement.

In order to sit down at the negotiating table «a full cease-fire is necessary», he said. «If our partners don't want us in NATO, we need security guarantees,» the Ukrainian president added. Russia continues its military invasion of Ukraine, launched on orders from Vladimir Putin on Feb. 24. Russian authorities call it a «special military operation» to protect people «from genocide». Meanwhile, all these days, Russia has been shelling not only military facilities but also residential areas in Ukraine, in particular using cluster bombs, which pose a grave danger to civilians.

Since the outbreak of hostilities, Ukraine has severed diplomatic relations with Russia. The Council of Europe suspended Russia's membership in the organization. Putin and Lavrov are on the sanctions lists of the United States, the European Union and the United Kingdom. Almost all airspace is closed to Russia. In response, Putin ordered that the country's nuclear forces be put on high alert. The EU said it would provide Ukraine with weapons.
