Airbnb, Apple, Google, Pinterest, Twitch face fines in Russia, refuse to ‘localise’ personal data
Roskomnadzor, Russia’s censorship agency, has registered administrative offence reports against Apple, Google, Twitch, Pinterest, Airbnb, Likeme and United Parcel Service for refusing to store individuals’ personal data within Russia, says the agency’s website.
All companies face punishment for the first time and are expected to pay 1 to 6 million rubles (€13,800 to 83,000) worth of fine, except for Google, a repeat offender who might face a fine of up to 18 million (~€250,000).
Google was fined 3 million in July 2021. Roskomnadzor says the company paid the fine on time.
