Putin signs decree promising over €76,000 in compensation to families of National Guard officers killed in Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree ordering the payment of 5 million rubles (approximately €76,400) to the families of Russia’s National Guard officers killed during the war in Ukraine. The document was published on the official legal information portal.

Families of the National Guard officers who were killed in the war in Ukraine, or on the territory of the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk “people’s republics” (“DPR” and “LPR”), will receive a one-off payment to the tune of 5 million rubles. If an officer dies within a year of receiving an injury, his relatives will be paid the same amount.

Families of volunteers killed in Ukraine or volunteers who died within a year of completing their missions on the territory of the “DPR” and “LPR” are eligible for a compensation as well. The same rules apply to the relatives of border officers within the Federal Security Service (FSB) killed in the line of duty on the border with Ukraine, as well as to “state officials” sent to the self-proclaimed Donbas republics.

The decree enters into force today.

Earlier, Vladimir Putin signed a decree offering university admission privileges to the children of Russian military officers taking part in the war in Ukraine.

The new quota reaches “10% in each specialty or study domain.” Children of soldiers who were killed in the war can be admitted to Russian universities within this quota without entry exams.
