TASS: several Azovstal defending commanders held in Moscow detention facility

Several commanders of Ukraine’s Azov regiment who surrendered themselves at the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol are now held in Moscow’s Lefortovo pre-trial detention centre, TASS cites its source within the Russian police.

“Several people of the Azov regiment command are held in Lefortovo,” the source said, not mentioning any names.

Azov’s deputy commander Sviatoslav Palamar and Ukraine’s marine commander Serhiy Volynsky were escorted to Russia for “investigation,” TASS reported yesterday.

“Other officers from different Ukrainian units were also escorted to Russia,” a source within one of Russia’s security agencies said.

Denis Pushilin, head of the so-called ‘Donetsk People’s Republic’, said in May that the Ukrainian captives from the Azovstal steelworks were in the DPR territory, claiming they were facing court martial there.
