Mayor: Russia hit military targets near Zhytomyr with 20 missiles from Belarusian territory

Russia’s military has fired 24 missiles from the Belarusian territory upon military targets around Ukraine’s Zhytomyr, says Serhiy Sukhomlyn, the city’s mayor. The city itself was unhurt.

A total of 30 missiles were fired upon the Zhytomyr region, says Vitaly Bunechko, the local governor; there is no data on any potential casualties.

“Starting from 4:15 in the morning, just like on the first day of war, the enemy has been executing missile strikes upon our region!” he wrote on his Telegram.

Russia’s Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu said earlier that Russia and Belarus should “bolster [their] defence capacity.” Combat readiness drills began in Belarus two weeks ago, involving all categories of military personnel. In the early days of war, Alyaksandar Lukashenka, the country’s president, said Russia had hit Ukraine’s positions with missiles from the Belarusian territory, claiming it was made “not by choice but necessity.”
