Russia’s FSB reports to have detained Japan’s Consulate General Consul ‘while he was receiving information of restricted distribution’
Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) has said to have detained the Consul of Japan’s Consulate General in Vladivostok Motoki Tatsunori “while he was receiving information of restricted distribution”, reports Russia’s state news agency TASS, citing FSB.
According to FSB, the consul was detained “while he was receiving information of restricted distribution about the current aspects of Russia’s cooperation with one of the countries of the Asia-Pacific region and the impact of the Western sanctions policy on the economic situation in the Primorsky region in exchange for money”. The Japanese diplomat admitted his guilt.
The Russian side lodged a protest with the Japanese side through diplomatic channels, while the consul was declared persona non grata, TASS adds.
