State Duma committee gives details on annexation

Pavel Krashennikov, head of the State Duma Committee on State Building and Legislation announced that “the hryvnia will be allowed to circulate” until the end of 2022 in Ukrainian territories annexed by Russia, Interfax reports.

Krashennikov made several other announcements about how Ukrainian territories’ “unification with Russia” will proceed from the point of view of the Russian government.

In particular, according to Krashennikov, residents of these territories will receive Russian citizenship “on the condition that they submit an application and take the oath of citizens of the Russian Federation.” Territorial branches of federal executive governing bodies should appear by June 1, 2023, he said.

Krashennikov also said that “the armed forces, military formations, and specialized bodies” as well as “other troops, troop formations, and bodies” in the “new subjects” should become part of the armed forces of the Russian Federation.

• It is expected that the Duma will consider a bill on Ukrainian territories “joining Russia” on October 3. According to Krashennikov, it has already been submitted, though as of publication, nothing had been posted on the website of the lower house of parliament.
