Husband of Chechen anti-mobilisation protester dies after being forced to beat up his wife. His drafted son was allowed to attend the funeral

Adam Muradov, whose wife attended an anti-mobilisation protest in Russia’s Chechnya, has died from a heart attack, the Memorial Human Rights Centre reported.

Muradov felt unwell during a prayer. His drafted son Valid was allowed to attend the funeral.

Anti-mobilisation protests took place in Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, in the days following Vladimir Putin’s mobilisation order. A number of female protesters were detained and taken to the local mayor’s office. Their male relatives were brought there as well. According to Memorial, they were forced to beat up the women. The men were warned that if they refused to do that, the police would beat the women up instead, which “would be much worse”.

On the next day, head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov said that the relatives of the detained protesters had been drafted into the army. 18-year-old Valid was among them.
