Governor of Russia’s Belgorod region says shelling of substation resulted in fire
Following shelling, a substation caught fire that was later put out in Russia’s Belgorod, the region’s governor Vyacheslav Gladkov says in a Telegram post.
“The fire was put out. We have started on the reconnection process,” Gladkov clarified.
Earlier, he said that the authorities would try to turn the power back on as soon as possible. “We will try to deal with the aftermath as quickly as possible. Switching to backup power will take up to approximately four hours. The water supply hasn’t been damaged, the pumps were connected to other power lines,” he wrote.
Local Telegram channels previously reported that a shell hit the Luch Thermal Power Station. It was also reported that part of the city was left without electricity as a result.
In the morning, Gladkov reported that Russian air defence had shot down missiles in the area of the Novooskolsky district of the region. The fragments of the fallen shell had damaged power lines, as a result of which train service was suspended temporarily.
