Death toll in shelling of Russia’s Belgorod region rises to four

Belgorod region Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov has said that two Shebekino residents were killed in a shelling attack, three more were injured.

Belgorod regional health minister Andrey Ikonnikov has stated that an 80-year-old woman injured in the shelling of Shebekino died in hospital.

Gladkov also stated that another resident of the region had been killed as a result of air defence operations in Valuyki. “Our air defence systems took down a Tochka-U [missile] over Valuyki. Preliminary information suggests that one person was killed and one received shrapnel wounds to the legs,” he wrote.

Thus, the death toll in the shelling of the Belgorod region has risen to four.

“According to preliminary reports, there are 2 dead and 3 injured people in the evening shelling of the town of Shebekino. Ambulances have been dispatched to the site. The head of the district and emergency response services continue to go through the area building by building,” he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Telegram channels published various photos and videos allegedly showing the destruction left by the recent round of shelling. “Half of a pharmacy is fucking destroyed. Corpses, dead people, there are corpses there,” a man can be heard saying in the background.

Gladkov later said that a man and a woman died. According to him, shells mainly hit a two-storey residential building.

The three injured people were rushed to hospital with various wounds and severity of them. The governor wrote that they are getting all the medical care they need.

The news emerged today that Belgorod is gearing up to roll out an interactive bomb shelter mop and place signs indicating the nearest shelter all over the city.

Villages in the Kursk, Bryansk, and Belgorod regions located on the Russian-Ukrainian border have been regularly targeted by shelling after Russia’s invasion in Ukraine began.

On 22 October, authorities began erecting defence structures, particularly Czech hedgehogs, in the Belgorod region.
