Kherson region of Ukraine shelled by Russian troops, three people killed

Three people were killed in shelling of the Kherson region of Ukraine carried out by Russia’s troops, six people were wounded, head of the local administration Yaroslav Yanushevych says.

According to him, the territory of the region was shelled 54 times in the last 24 hours.

“Civilian settlements of the region were attacked with artillery, multiple rocket launchers, mortars, tanks, and sniper fire. The enemy has once again shelled the residential areas of Kherson. They hit a medical institution, private and multi-storey houses,” Yanushevych writes in a Telegram post.

Explosions were heard once again today in the city of Kherson, Ukrainians national broadcaster Suspilne’s correspondents report.

“Three people were injured, one of them is in critical condition,” Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko says, confirming the strikes upon the centre of the city.

Yesterday, 17 December, he reported that the Russian army had shelled a humanitarian aid centre in the village Stepanivka, located close to the city of Kherson. He said that one woman had been killed, while two people had been hospitalised.

“The enemy attack damaged school buildings, hospitals, and churches,” Tymoshenko wrote yesterday.

On 11 November, Ukraine’s Armed Forces took back control over the city of Kherson from the Russian army. The next day, the regional military administration, police, and Ukraine’s Security Service resumed work in the city.
