Samara policeman sentenced to 3 years in prison for causing wife to commit suicide by beating her

A court in Russia’s Samara region has sentenced Gakil Badertdinov, a 44-year-old district police officer, to three years in prison for causing his wife to commit suicide by beating her, Aksioma reports.

This is exactly the same punishment the prosecutor was requesting for Badertdinov. The man pleaded not guilty and claimed his wife was provoking him herself.

The investigation of the case and the trial lasted four years and found out Badertdinov had been beating up his wife Gulnaz for several years. His daughters testified that he had been drinking “every day or every two days”, while their neighbours saw the woman and the children running out of their house and waiting for the man to calm down numerous times.

The woman soon took the children and left her husband, but he started calling and texting her using profanities, Aksioma says. Gulnaz committed suicide in October 2018.

Oxana Goncharova, a Russian journalist, suffered abuse from her partner for long years while the police turned a blind eye on the issue before she stabbed the man to death with a pair of scissors in an act of self-defence. She is currently under investigation.
