At least eight people killed in shelling of Ukraine’s Kherson carried out by Russian troops

Russian forces have shelled the centre of the city of Kherson, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Kyrylo Tymoshenko reports.

UPDATE 2:20 PM
The death toll has risen to eight people, the regional prosecutor’s office reports. “Civilian infrastructure objects have been damaged, among them are residential and administrative buildings, as well as vehicles,” it adds.

Five people were killed in the shelling, 35 were wounded, he claims. Out of the injured, 16 were hospitalised in critical condition. Head of the Kherson regional administration Yaroslav Yanushevych says that one of the wounded is a six-year-old child. “A girl with multiple shrapnel wounds has been hospitalised. The child is in critical condition,” he writes.

Over the past day, the Russian army has shelled the Kherson region 74 times, Yanushevych claims. “The enemy has been mercilessly attacking residential areas of Kherson for the entire day — 36 shellings have been documented. Russian shells have hit critical infrastructure facilities, a kindergarten, a school, a hospital, shops, a factory, private and multi-storey buildings,” the head of the administration reports.

On 11 November, Ukraine’s Armed Forces took back control over the city of Kherson. The next day, the regional military administration, police, and Security Service of Ukraine resumed work in the city. After withdrawing from Kheron, the Russian army has been regularly shelling the city.
