Russia declares Anti-Corruption Foundation chairwoman Maria Pevchikh ‘foreign agent’

Russia’s Justice Ministry added the chairwoman of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, Maria Pevchikh, and her associate Georgy Alburov, to its list of foreign agents. The news outlet Taiga.info was also added to the list.

The ministry said Pevchikh was added to the registry for “spreading opinions aimed at forming a negative image of Russia” and publicly supporting sanctions against the Russian leadership. Alburov was added for “spreading unreliable information about Russia’s Armed Forces” and also supporting the sanctions.

The list of “foreign agents” now also includes:

• Alexander Osovtsov, political analyst
• Ivan Preobrazhensky, political analyst
• Maria Maksakova-Igenbergs, former Duma deputy
• Vladimir Pastukhov, political scientist
• Elena Agafonova, volunteer
• Women’s socio-political movement “Soft Power”
• SK SOS Crisis Group
• St. Petersburg PEN Club

The Justice Ministry regularly updates the “foreign agents” registry on Friday evenings. The list now includes a total of 598 entries.
