Second rail track of Crimean Bridge back in service

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin reported on Friday that the railroad across the Crimean Bridge is now fully back in service.

“Construction workers have accomplished a true feat in restoring this important site. Thanks to their dedicated work, the road section of the bridge was fully opened 1.5 months ahead of schedule in February. Now, service has re-started on the second track of the railway — also ahead of schedule,” Khusnullin.

He pointed out that the repairs team worked round the clock in two shifts.

Road service on the bridge was relaunched on 23 February.

On 8 October 2022, an explosion rocked the Crimean Bridge, connecting mainland Russia and Crimea. Part of the bridge collapsed, and a freight train transporting fuel caught fire. Four people were killed in the explosion.

The Russian security service (FSB) branded head of the Ukrainian military intelligence Kyrylo Budanov as the man who masterminded the attack. Moscow and Simferopol courts arrested 8 Russians in connection with the case. All of them are accused of committing a terrorist attack. The Russian Investigative Committee said it had identified a total of 12 people directly connected to the incident.
