Tajikistan national opens fire at Chişinău airport, killing two

The police have detained the attacker

A Tajikistani man opened fire at the airport of Chişinău, Moldova, killing two, as per the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

The man started shooting after he had been banned from entering the territory of Moldova.

“He shot at the border guard and barricaded himself in a room. People were evacuated from the building,” Russia’s state news agency TASS reported, citing a source within the ministry.

Moldova’s Internal Affairs Ministry confirmed two people killed in the shooting.

Later on, the ministry also stated that the attacker had been detained and disarmed. He’s injured.

Moldova’s Prosecutor General’s Office has initiated a criminal case on a terrorist attack.

The country’s Prime Minister Dorin Recean later stated that the shooting had been carried out by a national of Tajikistan.

“A 43-year-old citizen of Tajikistan was banned from entering Moldova due to safety concerns. While he was being escorted to the transit area, he fatally shot a border police officer and an airport security employee using a gun stolen from the border police officer,” Recean wrote in a Facebook post.
