Poland to send 500 police officers to country’s border with Belarus

Poland will deploy 500 more police officers at the country’s border with Belarus due to “tensions”, says Mariusz Kamiński, Poland’s Interior Minister.

These officers will join the 5,000 border guards and 2,000 soldiers that already protect the Polish frontier.

The Polish Deputy Prime Minister Jarosław Kaczyński stated earlier that the Polish authorities had decided to strengthen its border protection after Wagner Group mercenaries arrived in Belarus. “Based on the data we currently have, we believe that it’ll be around 8,000 [Wagner] soldiers. This is a factor of danger for Ukraine, Lithuania, and can be dangerous for Poland,” he said.

According to the official, the number of troops permanently deployed to the border as well as the “various barriers and fortifications that will serve to protect the border in case of an attack” will be increased.
