Police drop charges against mother who lost her son in Ukraine war

She was earlier reported for speaking with Novaya-Europe

The Russian police will not prosecute Alla Farkhelislamova, a woman who lost her son, a young man serving his mandatory term in the army, for “discrediting the Russian military,” 72.ru reports.

“Our district police officer just stopped by my place and asked me to sign a paper declaring that discreditation charges against me were dropped. Thank God there is still some justice in Russia,” she told the media outlet on 5 July.

Afanasy Podaev from the Tyumen region was killed in Russia’s Belgorod region by a shelling. On 29 May 2023, Novaya-Europe published an interview with his family: his father Oleg Podaev, his sister Yulia Podkhodova, and his mother Alla Farkhelislamova.

A few days later, some woman named Anna Korobkova reported Farkhelislamova to the police, claiming that she had “discredited the Russian military” and needed to be prosecuted, resulting in charges being pressed against the deceased soldier’s mother.
