On March 28, co-chairman of the United Democratic Movement "Solidarity" Boris Nemtsov was officially registered as a candidate for mayor of Sochi. As Solidarity press secretary Olga Shorina told the Daily Journal, the meeting of the Sochi election commission was short and the decision was made quickly. Everything went off without incident; Nemtsov himself was not present at the meeting.
To date, out of 26 people who notified the commission of their intention to run for mayor of Sochi, six have been eliminated. Nemtsov was one of the first officially registered candidates. The final list of registered candidates is due to be published by the electoral commission on April 3. Elections are due to take place on April 26.
