The Zyuzinsky court, re-examining the case of Olga Zelenina, an expert at the Penza Research Institute of Agriculture, suspected of aiding drug smuggling, decided on September 25 to release her from custody. in the courtroom. Thus, the court rejected the investigation’s request to arrest Zelenina, whose period of detention expired on September 26.

A day earlier, the Moscow City Court overturned the first decision of the Zyuzinsky court to place Zelenina in custody and sent the case for a new trial.

As a leading Russian specialist in the selection of drug-free varieties of oilseed poppy and hemp, Zelenina has repeatedly acted as an expert in processes related to drug trafficking. However, its conclusions often did not coincide with the position of the Federal Drug Control Service. Thus, in 2011, Zelenina concluded that a batch of 42 tons of edible poppy imported into Russia did not contain intentionally introduced narcotic impurities and that it was impossible to mechanically clear the seeds from poppy straw, which contradicted the conclusions of specialists from the Federal Drug Control Service. As a result, the case surrounding this party was transferred from Bryansk to Moscow, and on August 15 of this year Zelenina was detained and on August 20 taken into custody by court decision.
