The Presidential Administration plans to significantly limit the functions of the Prosecutor General's Office. First of all, transfer to the Ministry of Justice the right to check the implementation of laws - what is called general supervision. The Vedomosti newspaper wrote about this on September 8. According to the plan, employees of the Prosecutor General's Office will now only support the prosecution in court and supervise the investigation. Perhaps the Prosecutor General’s Office will even become part of the Ministry of Justice.
The fate of the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor General’s Office, which has already taken over some of the prosecutor’s functions, is not yet entirely clear. There are also plans to create a single investigative committee, which will include the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Investigative Committee under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the newspaper writes.
By the way, these plans are part of a possible reform of the entire Ministry of Internal Affairs. An employee of the central apparatus of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told the newspaper that it could begin as early as the end of September, as a result of which there will be a separate federal criminal police, municipal police and something like a national guard, into which the internal troops will be turned.
