Russian journalist and human rights activist Sergei Kuznetsov was detained in Israel, at Ben-Gurion International Airport. Previously, he asked the Israeli authorities to grant him political asylum, but did not receive a response within three weeks, which he considers a violation of the Geneva Convention.
Kuznetsov tried to fly from Israel to the UK on July 24 - he planned to seek asylum there, but was detained. Then he was released, but on July 25 he was detained again.
The journalist, who was the public defender of former FSB colonel Mikhail Trepashkin, claims that he could not be in Russia because he feared for his safety and expected reprisals in connection with his human rights activities.
As NEWSru.co.il reports, a decision may soon be made to deport Kuznetsov.
