Academician Yuri Pivovarov left the post of director of the Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences (INION) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. He submitted an application for departure on his own on April 18, on Monday the order to dismiss his dismissal was signed. Pivovarov himself switched to the post of scientific director of the institute, yesterday the Scientific Council of the Institute voted unanimously for him.

Yuri Pivovarov headed INION in 1998, and he began to work there back in 1976. The first messages about his possible dismissal appeared after a fire in Ionion. Recall: the fire in Ionion began late in the evening of January 30 and was pulled out only on February 2. On April 20, the Investigative Committee of Russia (TFR) opened a criminal case under the article “negligence”. According to the committee, the fire was led to the fire of the fire supervision of the INION officials.

The dismissal of Pivovarov occurred simultaneously with the events unpleasant for the institute. - I want to ask you about a few financial facts that were given in articles and television stories about Inion ...

- We report for everything. INION has always been financially very strict and disciplined, we had an exemplary economy. And now there are so many lies about us! I hoped that we - the institute - would be more defended. And they constantly lie about us. Lies that burned catalogs and rare books. The lies are the words of the widow of the philosopher Zinoviev that you will come to INION, and they take money from you for a book. And this was shown in Vesti! The lie that we have a hundred commercial stalls in our building. Of the 39 thousand square meters, we handed over only 800, and those under intergovernmental agreements: for German and French centers.

- They wrote a lot about the fact that the Center for Security at NATO is located in INION, in fact hostile to Russia.

- In 1997, President Yeltsin signed the fundamental act of Russia - NATO, according to which the NATO Documentation Center was opened in Moscow. And naturally, INION was chosen for his office as an information institution. Yes, indeed, the NATO came here, held conferences. The entire generals of the Russian army, the intelligence service, and the FSB came to them ...

When Belgrade's bombing began, the center was closed. A center for European security problems was created on its base. In 2012, he also ceased to exist. In order to save the library of the Center, collected over the years by Russian researchers, it was decided to establish an INION unit with the same name. It has nothing to do with NATO. To blame us for ties with NATO is simply funny. In general, I am sure that much in the case of INION is associated with my scientific and political position.

- Senator Elena Afanasyeva in early April stated that it was unacceptable that such a large position as yours was held by a person who has “no state thinking”, a person “with other political views”. Is there a feeling that a campaign against you is a reaction to your speeches about history and politics?

- All my life I was interested in only one topic. Speaking with high words - the fate of Russia. Russian history, its past, present, future. How many books I wrote on this topic. I don't know who Afanasyev is. And who am I - I know. They poisoned me before - either in the Literary Newspaper, then in the newspaper Tomorrow.

People were surprised: you are the director of the largest humanitarian institute in the country and allow yourself to say something like that. But I always thought that I was not a politician - I am a historian, a political scientist. Apparently, now the era is when this cannot be done. But I can’t shut up anyway.

History became the battlefield: intellectual, moral, ethical. And this battle should be given. This is not even a matter of belief, this is a matter of national security. If we say: “With all the crimes, Stalin played a great role,” we will have one future. And if we say: "God, what we did with the country!" - The future will be different.
