Conference and Hakaton against Censorship
On November 18 and 19, 2022, in Paris, the Internet without borders will hold a conference and Hakaton in support of the free Internet in Russia and in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine. We invite representatives and representatives of IT communities, civilian activists/OK, researchers, to discuss the problems of Internet censorship together and find IT solutions against locks and isolation. Participants will be included in the international movement against censorship and will help launch tools for promoting VPN, analyzing the shatdows, and bypassing blocking. The prize fund of Hakaton is $ 5,000.
About the conference
“Internet without borders” is a series of two-day conferences and hackathons, where participants together are looking for decisions to restore Internet lives. The task of these measures is to develop new strategies and improve existing tools in order to prevent the complete information isolation of citizens. Participants are invited to think over and discuss projects and decisions for citizens who live in Russia and in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, where access to online content is very limited.
Authoritarian regimes survive by controlling information and discourse by propaganda and censorship. This led, among other things, to widespread ignoring and dual attitude towards the atrocities of Russia in Ukraine and the Caucasus. Our events will help break through the Russian firewalls. Join us!
The organizers of the event: Equalitie and the greenhouse of social technologies with the support of the Internet protection society , as well as international technological projects Amneziavpn , Lantern , Access Now , Ooni , New Node and Ceno .
Topics of the Conference and Hakaton
The organizers invite specialists from the IT sphere, as well as representatives of civilian initiatives and anti-war communities to discuss the following tasks, problems and challenges:
- Popularization of VPN and other means of bypassing blocking among Russians and residents of temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine;
- Study, measurement and analysis of Internet censorship;
- Support for communication methods inside isolated networks (as, for example, in the case of implementing the extreme scenario of “sovereign Runet”);
- Ensuring access to the global network from the occupied territories;
- Increasing the stability of networks to the shatdowns;
- And other topics related to solving the problem of Internet censorship.

First day, November 18, Friday
The first day will be held in the conference format. It will be dedicated to discussions and presentations united in several tracks:

- "How to explain to others the principle of operation and setting up VPN?" - practical sessions and compilation of methodologies for further trainings;
- “In -depth study of the technologies of bypassing blocking” - a session about the differences between the tools, their custom settings;
- “To measure censorship to win it” is a session about the tools for analyzing traffic and visualizing the Internet censorship for a better understanding of its principles.
Agitprop Internet lifts:
- Autrich, advertising, agitation and popularization of technologies for bypassing censorship;
- Development of joint projects with the media (training, testing tools with journalists, compiling user stories and user cases (use cases);
- Creating illustrations, guides, documentation, cards for social networks.

The second day will take place in the format of Hakaton. We invite IT specialists to join the development of specific solutions. The tasks will be proposed by technical and local partners. The goal of the hackathon is the design of prototypes for a new generation of censorship tools, the development of new paradigms for anti -war campaigns, the fight against misinformation and information isolation.
Hakaton "Internet without borders" is a mobile laboratory where technical specialists, researchers, journalists, public activists are found to answer together the most important challenges, having improved and finalize existing technical means
We invite technical specialists (developers and developers, designers, analytics dates), as well as journalists and journalists, researchers, human rights activists, representatives of the spheres of Dijital, Media, PR, social sciences and activists to take part in Hakaton. The prize fund of Hakaton is $ 5,000.

About the "Internet without borders"
“Internet without borders” is a technical conference and hacaton with a social mission. The idea of this event appeared as an answer to the desire to unite the Russian -speaking IT and social projects in the context of the mass outcome of technical and civil communities. Events are held in cities with an active Russian -speaking diaspora.
