The new restrictions mean that the company's software is prohibited from being acquired through procurement through a government agency (GSA). It is permitted to purchase Kaspersky Lab products outside of the scope of contracts for services in the field of information technology and digital photographic equipment.
The United States made this decision for the sake of “the integrity and security of government systems.” Previously, American officials were wary of the Laboratory’s cooperation with the Russian authorities.
Kaspersky Lab stated that they are ready to help government agencies investigate their activities. The company is confident that this will only confirm “that accusations of bias have no basis.”

On July 11, Bloomberg, based on correspondence from Kaspersky Lab employees from 2009, reported on the company’s secret project “at the request of the FSB.” According to the material, the company was supposed to protect authorities from DDoS attacks and track the location of hackers. The company stated that it had never developed a protection system for the FSB, but was cooperating with the agency.
In June, the FBI interviewed several Kaspersky Lab employees to gather information about the company and cooperation with Russian authorities. Evgeny Kaspersky agreed to show the source code of the products to US government officials in order to remove suspicions.
