The defenders of the Khimki forest from the authorities who want to cut it in half with a highway lost in the next round: on April 27, the Cassation Board of the Supreme Court recognized as legal the decision of the court of first instance, which refused to cancel the transfer of approximately 150 hectares of the forest park from forest fund lands to transport lands. Earlier, environmentalists appealed to the Supreme Court with a demand to declare the government's decision illegal. In early March, the Supreme Court ruled not in their favor - it did not go against the government, despite a lot of violations and contradictions identified by the defenders of the Khimki Forest. Now, it seems, environmentalists can only rely on the European Court of Human Rights. It should be noted that the authorities’ appetite for forests is growing - judging by the road construction plans, there may be nothing left of Moscow’s forest protection belt at all.
