Split
The demonstration on the TV channel "Culture" of the series "The split" caused conflicting comments. Some bloggers, considered close to the Moscow Patriarchate, accused the filmmakers of the malicious propaganda of Old Believers. Other inhabitants of the network express perplexity due to the fact that the film is shown on “culture”, and not the second channel, as was originally supposed. In any case, this event acquired a socially significant character and attracted attention to the Old Believer theme.
“The split” is the second attempt to turn the creators of the series to the Old Believer tradition. The first - in 2010 - caused criticism from the Old Believers themselves. And the point is not that the film “In the Forests and on the Mountains” was shot according to the book of the head of the Old Believers of Melnikov-Pechersky-just to the ethnographic part of his works from the Old Believers a few complaints. Significant issues among believers arose precisely to the film-due to the fact that enthusiasm replaced historical reliability. The situation is exactly the opposite with the “schism”: the Old Believers like the film (judging by the first reviews; especially since the Old Believer figure Gleb Chistyakov acted as a film consultant), and the television authorities rearranged the series with “Russia” to “Culture”. An unhurried story about the religious and political contradictions of the 17th century can hardly arouse the interest of fans of “soap operas”, who give love and revenge in the historical interior. Therefore, the series could not get the ratings required on the leading channels of the guest.
There is no need to talk about the real competition of the Russian Orthodox Church (Russian Orthodox Church) and the Old Believers - their number and resources, from information to financial, are not comparable. So the fears of the jealous of the primary status of the Russian Orthodox Church are baseless. In addition, the Old Believer community is divided and signs of its unification are not visible. On the contrary, more and more new problems are constantly arising in it, for example, in the relations between the Moscow Metropolitan (Russian Orthodox Old Believers Church - the RPSC) and the Metropolitan Belokrinitskaya located in Romania, established back in the 19th century (the Moscow Archbishop received San Metropolitan only in 1988). And this despite the fact that not all Old Believers recognize the jurisdiction of the Russian Orthodox Church: there are supporters of the Russian ancient Orthodox Church, not to mention non -pipy, who generally deny the church hierarchy.
In modern society, the Old Believers are perceived as exotic, a kind of historical and ethnographic phenomenon. This trend was tried to turn the Old Believer Metropolitan Andrian, elected by the head of the RPSC in 2004. He was a supporter of the openness of the church to the outside world, active work with youth, in -depth dialogue with the intelligentsia. Among church people, it is not customary to talk about popularity, but Vladyka really gained popularity among social people, including journalists, without refusing any of the postulates of the Old Believer tradition. This, however, still caused wariness in the Old Believer environment, which was extremely suspicious of any innovations. The untimely death of Metropolitan Andrian in 2005 interrupted the implementation of his course - the Old Believer environment again became more sealed.
As for the current leader of the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Cornille (originally considered a follower of the predecessor), he, outside the "Old Belief" community, was known only to the initiative to create a public censorship and supervision committee "To control the moral filling of the works and activities of educational and cognitive nature in the fields of printing areas, and adolescents of the press. Theater, pops and mass media. " In 2007, this project corresponded to the mood of the authorities (during the anti -liberal and anti -Western campaign), but soon the secular authorities themselves began to understand what was somewhat “overwhelmed”. Such straightforward ideas - besides contrary to the constitutions - have gone out of fashion; They are replaced by more refined modifications. As for secular society, it is initially suspicious of various kinds of censorship initiatives, realizing that it is only worth starting, and then the champions of morality will get to the Snow White with gnomes, and to the red cap with a wolf. True, radical ideas that exist in the environment of both the RPSC and the Russian Orthodox Church (for example, about rock music as a manifestation of Satanism), the current Old Believer leadership does not share. Rather, it is inertial-conservative, focused not on the mission, but on the preservation of the status quo.
The influx of new adherents in modern Old Believers is small. The current Old Believer is either a representative of the original “Old Believers” family, or the opponent of the “cooperation” of the Moscow Patriarchate with the authorities, or the intellectual, which is interested in religious tradition, is attracted by the authorized worship of a complete rank, “as in the Middle Ages”. However, the latter can come not only to the Old Believers, but also in the “Old Believers” parishes as part of the Russian Orthodox Church (such as the capital's temple of St. Nicholas on Bersenevka), the number of which is gradually increasing. They are prayed for no less long and eagerly than in the RPSC, and possible obstacles to neophytes - even domestic nature - significantly less. For example, at the entrance to one of the Old Believer churches near Moscow, I read a notification of the local dress code: men should wear shirts “output”, as in the Donicon times. Against this background, the ROC (and, of course, the RPSC) is the usual requirement for women to visit the church with their head covered quite moderate.
In the near future, in a state of Russian Old Believers, significant changes are unlikely to occur. This suits the majority of “Old Believers” believers and clergy, as well as the Russian Orthodox Church, who does not see serious rivals in the Old Believers (exalted anti -Star transport statements of “ultra -law” bloggers regarding the “schism” more than an exception than the rule). And the historical series, even if it were shown on the second channel, can hardly change anything here.
