On March 1, defenders of the Khimki Forest will sue Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. This will happen at a meeting of the Supreme Court, where environmentalists will challenge Putin’s order No. 1642 of November 5, 2009, by which he transferred the territory of the Khimki forest to transport land for the construction of the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway, thereby putting the unique forest area at risk. According to defenders of the Khimki Forest, Putin publicly violated the law, since there are alternative routes for laying the route, both more environmentally friendly and shorter. The Greenpeace organization has already recognized the prime minister's order as illegal and has filed a statement in this regard with the prosecutor's office. The international anti-corruption organization Transparency International and the National Anti-Corruption Committee said at a round table on toll roads held on February 18 that they would check the Moscow-St. Petersburg highway project (and Putin’s order on the transfer of forests to transport lands) for corruption, as well as the project of the Central Ring Road, for which it is planned to cut down and develop almost the entire forest park belt around Moscow.
The open meeting will take place at 10.00 at Povarskaya St., 15.
