Duma deputy from A Just Russia Konstantin Ilkovsky has been appointed acting head of the Trans-Baikal Territory. Previously, the region was headed by Ravil Geniatulin. Ilkovsky’s appointment was announced by Putin’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov, who emphasized that when making the decision on the appointment, the president was guided primarily not by party affiliation, but by the business and personal qualities of the applicant, as well as work experience in the region (Ilkovsky, by the way, is non-partisan). Ilkovsky was the general director of OJSC AK Yakutskenergo and advisor to the general director of OJSC RAO ES of the East. He intended to participate in the upcoming elections for the head of Transbaikalia.
Ilkovsky had not previously been visible in any active political activities. Perhaps in this way Putin is throwing another bone to the loyal formal oppositionists. Or maybe this is not necessary.
