Lev Gudkov - 70

On December 6, 2016, he is 70 years old to the director of the Levada Center, professor of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the NIU-SWE, doctor of philosophical sciences Lev Dmitrievich Gudkov. We publish congratulations to his colleagues and friends.

In my understanding, Lev Dmitrievich Gudkov is one of the most serious and most famous Russian social scholars. I see in him a sociologist and culturologist, philosopher and half a poster, political journalist. This is the result of his scientific and public activity. And above all, I would like to wish him to maintain interest in scientific research and public temperament for a long time.

Lev Gudkov, of course, is a public person, he publishes a lot, they write a lot about him. In addition, his work, if we consider the aggregate and in dynamics, made by him, is very biographical. In what he wrote, much is read about himself.

He is a person who has decided early and made his choice. But if the choice makes the personality itself, then the options for this choice given time, or space-time, his life. He was born in 1946, the family, the post -war “thaw” Moscow, the school is the environment that formed its civic position and the orientation of its intellectual interests. It was not easy to absorb all this, even more difficult to save in yourself. Lev Gudkov was able to.

The genesis of the work of Leo Gudkov is very interesting, of course, he is unique, but it also clearly visible the typical features. One of the results of my long -term study of the history of post -war Russian sociology is the generational stratification of our professional community.

The third generation includes sociologists born in 1935-1946. Gudkov is a representative of the younger strata of this generation, or rather, more precisely, the border layer. Both in the trajectory of his movement to science, and in the development of his professional activity, the features of both the third and the next - the fourth generation are shown. And, of course, Gudkov is the successor of the scientific and civilian traditions of the first generation sociologists, primarily Yu.A. Levadi.

The choice was made a long time ago, and Lev Gudkov is true to his choice. This is great happiness. And for him and for Russian sociology.

The Kiev International Institute of Sociology (KMIS) has been cooperating with Levada Center for many years, at one time Yuri Levada came to an observer to our exit. In Vinnitsa at the school that he finished, a commemorative board was installed (and this is the only board in Ukraine that is dedicated to sociologists), I and I and I went to open it with the Levada Center. And Lev Gudkov turned out to be a worthy successor to Yuri Alexandrovich.

Our cooperation has been continuing, since 2008 we have been carrying out a very important, from my point of view, monitoring the relations of Ukrainians to Russia and Russians to Ukraine, and after the annexation of Crimea, this project has become even more important. My colleagues and I are deeply respected by Leo Gudkov, admire his courage and with interest we follow his publications with a deep analysis of social processes in Russia. We wish him health, calm, unhindered and interesting work!

Lev Dmitrievich Gudkov Today is the most famous Russian sociologist in Ukraine. He is known as a unique researcher of post -Soviet social realities, and, above all, as a public sociologist who consistently defends the right of social analysts to an objective position in not the most favorable conditions for this. It is no coincidence that the center he head was recognized as a “foreign agent”.

For me, Lev Gudkov is really an agent - an agent of honor, an agent of professional dignity, an independence agent from power whims and mass delusions. It is only a pity that the “foreign” ... congratulating the outstanding Russian sociologist on the anniversary, I wish him the strength, health and new creative ups, and for myself new meetings with brilliant scientific and journalistic work of the anniversary!
