Sulim Yamadayev, the former commander of the Chechen battalion “Vostok” of federal subordination, an enemy of Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, was killed. On the afternoon of March 30, Sergei Krasnogor, the Russian consul in Dubai, where the assassination attempt took place, confirmed the death of Yamadayev. Previously, conflicting information had been received, local police reported the murder of a certain Chechen Suleiman Madov, and the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper wrote that Yamadayev was in a coma.
One or two people reportedly attacked Yamadayev in Dubai on March 28 as he approached his car. The guards were unable to stop the attack. According to Yamadayev's brother, Isa, due to tight security measures in the United Arab Emirates, the guards did not have weapons. Sulim Yamadayev was hit by three bullets, one of them hit his heart.
Let us recall that Sulim Yamadayev’s elder brother, Ruslan, a former Duma deputy, was killed in Moscow on September 24, 2008. It is unknown who is behind his murder. Sulim denied that Kadyrov could have given the order to kill his brother, despite the enmity between them. Sulim Yamadayev himself, according to Kommersant, left Moscow at the end of last year. By this time, he had been dismissed from the armed forces, and three criminal cases were brought against him. At the same time, he was fired shortly after his battalion took part in hostilities in South Ossetia.
The conflict between Kadyrov and the Yamadayevs intensified in April 2008, after the motorcades of the Chechen President and Sulim’s subordinates collided in Chechnya.
