The case of the death of six-year-old Sasha Kolokoltsev from Volgograd under the wheels of a car of an employee of the Volgograd Regional Prosecutor's Office was closed for lack of evidence of a crime. The boy’s relatives were informed about this by the Main Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee under the Prosecutor’s Office for the Southern Federal District.
The tragedy occurred on June 21, 2009. According to Sasha’s grandmother, she was crossing the road with her children, and suddenly a foreign car (Opel Corsa) suddenly pulled out from behind a car that had slowed down to let them cross. The car, driven by the prosecutor of the department for supervision of criminal procedure and operational investigative activities of the Volgograd Region Prosecutor's Office, Elena Ivanova, was driving at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour. As the grandmother says, the car hit Sasha so that he flew up, and then - apparently because Ivanova pressed the gas instead of the brake - she drove the wheels over his head. According to some agencies, Ivanova was drunk.
Five auto technical examinations were carried out, but, according to relatives, they did not take into account the obvious facts, and the last one completely distorted everything, starting from the distance from which the driver should have noticed the boy. The press service of the regional police department, according to eyewitnesses, reported that Sasha was crossing the street in the wrong place, and the car was moving at normal speed.
Ivanova was fired, but this turned out to be the only sanction against her. The Central District Court of Volgograd considered that there were insufficient grounds to initiate a criminal case against her.
In the near future, Sasha’s relatives plan to hold another, already sixth, rally for an objective investigation, and also to attend an appointment with the Moscow Investigative Committee at the Prosecutor General’s Office.
