Early in the morning of July 21, as reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, unknown persons attacked the Baksan hydroelectric power station in Kabardino-Balkaria, killed two guards, took possession of their weapons, entered the turbine room, beat three workers and planted several explosive devices, after which disappeared. Four devices went off and damaged three generators and equipment, one was neutralized by sappers. It is alleged that there were four attackers.
First Deputy Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Colonel General of Police Mikhail Sukhodolsky, said that the ministry will conduct an audit of the actions of the republican leadership of internal affairs in order to assess whether “everything has been done by the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic in order to ensure the safety of the work of our employees.”
Energy workers, as reported by RIA, report that the hydraulic structures were not damaged. In addition, the Baksan hydroelectric station does not seem to play a big role in providing the republic with energy, so the explosions did not lead to a limitation of power supply.
