Ingushetia became the second subject of the federation after Dagestan to declare its refusal to hold direct elections of the head of the region. (True, in Dagestan there were no direct elections of the leader anyway.) On May 8, the People's Assembly of Ingushetia adopted in the second and third readings amendments to the bill on the election of the head of the republic, and now the head there will be elected by the same People's Assembly. One deputy out of 24 voted against. The term of office of the current head of the republic, Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, ends this year.
